چکیده

Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) tag is a promising device for the management of products at a very low cost. Huge number of such low-cost sensors can be installed to the structure beforehand, after a disaster we can access to these sensors wirelessly and very easily. In this system, a printed sheet is applied to a part of structure in which crack will occur. Copper wire is connected to the attachment on the structure and a RFID tag. When a crack occurs, the printed sheet is broken, resulting in an increase in resistance. Crack width can be estimated by the ability of an RFID transmitter to communicate with the tag. By fatigue test of steel specimen with a notch, the relationships between crack width and conductivity of the materials are examined. It is shown that the level of crack width can be related to the ability of the printed sheet to conduct electricity or not. Very small steel crack can be detected by this sensor.

Towards SCARS: A Chipless RFID Sensor for Pervasive Surface Crack Detection

We present Surface Crack Antenna Reflectometric Sensing or SCARS: a chipless RFID sensor that enables pervasive, wireless surface crack detection in structural materials. We outline the sensor design and demonstrate how crack length and orientation can be uniquely related to the backscatter signal signature of the SCARS sensor. In doing so, design techniques that improve sensor sensitivity and ...

Damage Detection of Axially Loaded Beam: A Frequency-Based Method

The present study utilizes an analytical method to formulate the three lowest modal frequencies of axially-loaded notched beam through both crack location and load level in a specific format that can be used in existing frequency-based crack-identification methods. The proposed formula provides a basis to shift into two states, one with axial loading and the other without any loading whatsoever...

Storage and transportation conditions of goods need to be often controlled because of their sensitivity for elevated temperature or other environmental factors (like for example humidity).
